WORK WITH US

We’re hiring two full-time, year-round farmers to join our team beginning this fall. Ten Mothers Farm is a one acre, no-till vegetable farm located in Cedar Grove, NC (12 minutes north of downtown Hillsborough) serving 280 CSA families. 2025 will be our tenth year!

Our ideal candidates are experienced growers of production-scale organic vegetables who are interested in farming as a career. Depending on experience, there are opportunities for leadership positions (with raises) within 6-12 months.

Roughly half of the team’s time is spent harvesting, washing, and packing CSA shares. The other half is dedicated to preparing beds, transplanting, trellising, and other field activities. On a farm as small and diverse as ours, our days are varied, yet there’s also a good rhythm to each week and season.

Desired skills & qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of full-time work in farming, or related fields such as landscaping, restaurants, etc. Applicants should have a love of physical work (shoveling, wheelbarrowing, etc) outside in all kinds of weather. Farmers are endurance athletes.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills: we ask all members of our team to have a willingness to be a leader and to respectfully give and receive feedback. We strongly value each farmer’s voice and impact on the farm.

  • Positivity. Patience. Flexibility.

  • Relentless attention to detail. Thoroughness. An eye for both quality and efficiency.

  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation

  • A love of plants, soil, and good food! Wonder and care for the living things we work with (and eat) are key to the farm’s success, as well as the level of investment and joy we find in this work.

  • Welcoming of community: in respect to who we are as individuals within the farm team, our family that lives on the farm, our neighbors that live on this land, the other farmers here in Cedar Grove, and our broader CSA community and beyond. The farm hosts visitors throughout the season, and it is important that all of our farm team project a welcoming presence.

Timing: Positions are year round. Start date is ideally as soon as the end of September and no later than the end of November.

Compensation: Starting hourly wage of $17.65 - $20.00 depending on experience. Opportunities for leadership positions (with raises) within 6-12 months, also depending on experience.

Other benefits and work schedule: 2 weeks of PTO. Employees get to bring home abundant vegetables and we also trade for bread from a local bakery on a regular basis. We work 40 hours a week, including a one hour paid lunch. During the winter (December to February), the hours might be 30-40 hours a week, depending on weather and workload. Farm lunch is provided one day a week.

How to apply: Send us an email tenmothersfarm@gmail.com with the following:

  • Why do you want to work with us?

  • What is your background that you think contributes to making you a good farmer?

  • Are there any areas of small-scale vegetable production you're particularly good at? That make you nervous?

  • Please include two references (not family or close friends, please) who can speak to your abilities as a farmer or an employee in a related field (landscaping, restaurants, etc)

  • Include your most recent resume or a list of past and current employment

Deadline: Rolling, until positions are filled.

We look forward to hearing from you – thank you for your interest!
